Referees
Each team must have a referee available and share referring duties with the opposition. A great way to learn the rules of the game is to complete the quick online referee course. This is handy, even if you aren't going to referee as knowing the rules will make the game more enjoyable for everyone.
The course doesn't take long, only costs $10 and all online.

The Retreating Line
This is how you determine if a player is offside. It's created to allow players more time on the ball, so they can play it out from the goalkeeper and defence, rather than a good old hoof up the pitch (often referred to as Route 1).
