Founded in 1967, Tauranga City AFC has been a beacon for premier football in the Tauranga Moana region. The recent promotion in 2023 to the Northern League, places its Men's premier team as the sole Bay of Plenty representative in New Zealand's top domestic competition, with plans to bring National League Football back to the region. The increased exposure includes televised matches on FIFA+ TV, showcasing the best of Bay of Plenty football to a global audience.

Additionally, TCAFC has been instrumental in developing partnerships with other local clubs to form a new entity for female football and youth development. FC Tauranga Moana (FCTM) had a successful first year and their Academy numbers continue to grow. The addition of the Youth and Senior wāhine teams is a groundbreaking milestone for female football in the region and the first of its kind in Aotearoa. FCTM has strong ambitions to have a senior womens team in the top league in Aotearoa, with National League back to venues like Links Ave and for the first time in the Bay of Plenty, female teams in the NRFL Youth Leagues.
